The Canadian Institute for Advanced Research Quantum Materials Summer School will be held in Montreal on May 28-30, 2018. The summer school is organized by students of CIFAR members from Université de Sherbrooke and University of British Columbia.

Welcome to the 2018 Quantum Material Summer School

General informations

The 2018 CIFAR Quantum Materials Summer School will be held in Montreal on May 28 - 30, 2018. The school is intended for graduate students and postdocs, and will cover a range of topics in preparation for the main CIFAR Quantum Materials Meeting that will be held in Montreal on May 31 - June 2, 2018 following the summer school. The school will consist of lectures given by guest experts, a poster session and much more!

Who should attend

Registration is reserved for students/postdocs of CIFAR Quantum Materials members and invited EPIQ investigators. There is a maximum of 80 students and postdoc participants from CIFAR Quantum Materials members. An additional 22 spots are reserved for invited EPIQ investigators. In the initial round of applications, each CIFAR Quantum Materials Program member and EPIQ investigator can propose a maximum of two students. If spots remain after the initial round, additional students may be submitted by members. If you want to attend the school, you must register.

Registration fees

The cost of attending the Summer School is $300.00 per participant.

The cost of attending the Summer School and Program Meeting is $600.00 per participant.

After the summer school, eligible travel and meal expenses are reimbursed through CIFAR using the expense claim form.

Local informations

The summer school will be held at the Delta Hotel by Marriott Montreal.

The cheapest way from the airport to downtown Montreal is public transit.

From the downtown bus station (Beri-UQAM), the easiest way to the hotel is to take the green subway line to station Place-des-arts.

Breakfasts, lunches and coffee will be provided throughout the event. Self-organized meals will be reimbursed by CIFAR. (travel policy)

All meals and poster sessions will take place in the Opus 1 room, while all presentations and meeting sessions will take place in the Opus 2 room.

Schedule

Participants are expected to arrive at the Summer School on Sunday May 27, 2018 evening. The summer school starts the next morning. Students who are only attending the Summer School are expected to depart on the evening of Wednesday May 30. Students who are staying to attend the main meeting are expected to depart on the evening of Saturday June 2. If you have alternate arrival and departure times, please be sure to indicate this on registration.

The social event will be held at the Blumental in Montreal on May 28th. The diner is provided by the CIFAR Quantum Material Summer School.

Poster session

A poster session will be held during the summer school and a separate poster session will be held during the CIFAR QM Main Meeting. All summer school attendees are encouraged to bring a poster. Don't forget to send us your abstract and your poster ad !
