Jennifer Steele is an Associate Professor at the Psychology Department of York University. She leads the Interpersonal Perception and Social Cognition Lab (IPSC), and performs social psychological research on stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination, from a social cognitive perspective.

Main goals of the research conducted at the IPSC Lab are to increase understanding of implicit racial biases and gender stereotyping in childhood as well as the malleability of children’s implicit biases, and the consequences of biases among minority and majority children.

Prof. Steele previously investigated the effect of gender and racial stereotyping on hiring, and the consequences of stereotype threats on young girls mathematical performance and advancement in scientific domains. She furthermore examined the perception of women in male-dominated academic areas.
